What would be the most perfect way to hide the sunlight from our sight inside our very homes is through the use of a window blind. This is a covering for a window usually attached to its interior. These blinds could either block excess heat during summer or keep in heat during cold weather. The blinds’ power to reduce sunlight depends on how these things were designed. Blinds can also be installed in doors.
Many people love the clean, sleek look of window treatments. Verticals, woods and shutters provide privacy and light control without adding excessive texture or colors.
Blinds can be categorized according to the materials used to create them. Venetian blinds are basic slatted blind made of metal or plastic; wooden slats are sometimes used but these are usually referred to as wood blinds or bamboo blinds.
Wood blinds offer a warm and inviting look. These are richly stained or painted and are ideal for almost any room types. They are also known for energy efficiency, and greater light control, as well as being economical alternatives to shutters.
If you’re aspiring for the feel of real wood in your windows but is sticking to a stricter budget, you can use faux wood blinds as this materials give you the look of real wood, but in a much cheaper price. Aside from that they won't warp, crack or split, they're useful in high moisture and heavy traffic areas. This can be considered as the most popular among window blinds.
Vertical blinds can be considered as one of the most practical and functional blinds since it give you countless ways for easy adjustment of light that comes inside your room and serve as great insulators. They can be easily cleaned because they gather little dust. There are a lot of alternatives for Vertical blinds which are good for large windows, glass walls, sliding doors and room dividers. Sliding panel shades are popular for large windows and walls of glass. These panel tracks are also perfect for patio sliders and sliding doors, or even as a room divider.
In choosing window treatments, one should always think away from the materials, fabric, color, size and hardware for a meant time to ponder upon the most basic of things: privacy, light control, function and style. To ensure privacy, one should consider complete opaque covering, like fabric or roller shadings, which are made of vinyl to complete coverage of windows, and blinds and shutters.
For light control, a non-fabric shade can be installed for rooms that need to be fully darkened. Natural blinds such as bamboo and matchstick will filter the light and cut down on much of the glare.
Functionalities of window coverings vary. Stationery treatments, which are permanently installed function as sheers, blinds or shades. Blinds and soft shades are recommended to eliminate hazardous dangling objects that might be played by children.
To stylize the room, add interest to windows by repeating fabrics and colors used in other parts of the room and add style with contrasting borders and cordings. There's a lot which can be done with the different materials such as draperies, valances, shades and blinds to give class and style for a bland room or area.

Faux Wood Blinds - A Great Alternative To Wood Blinds
Creating a warm, relaxing, yet elegant home decor is the goal of nearly every homeowner. Arguably, one of the biggest ways to improve your home's interior is with wood window blinds. These blinds instantly create a welcoming message to your family and guests as well. The biggest problem for many is the cost of wood blinds, but thankfully there is a solution to this with faux wood blinds. Here is what you need to know about this inexpensive alternative.
Of course, you can always utilize curtains, drapes or even plastic blinds over your windows, but there is something very special about the look of wood blinds. They come available in all types of styles and sizes. For those hard to fit windows you can even have custom wood blinds made. If your budget is tight then faux wood blinds can be used instead.
Faux wood blinds are actually made out of wood materials in addition to vinyl or a combination of both. Their appearance is so life-like that it can be extremely difficult for most people to actually see the difference with these types of blinds.
Why use faux wood blinds?
Naturally, the biggest reason for using faux wood blinds is the reduced cost involved. You will typically save up to 50% off the cost of real wood blinds with faux counterparts. This is substantial depending on the number of windows in your home.
Another big reason has nothing to with cost, but with your home's location. Do you live in an area that is subject to extremely high humidity year round? Or are you looking for blinds that will stand up to the humidity in a bathroom? Well, wood blinds are very susceptible to moisture and can warp or swell quite easily. This is where faux wood blinds make for a perfect alternative.
You can find faux wood window blinds at home stores as well as home improvement centers such as Lowes and Home Depot. Another great place to search out these blinds is right online. There are many websites that specialize in all types of blinds and window coverings.
Once you purchase your blinds you can easily install them yourself in most all cases. All the necessary hardware and instructions are included with your blinds.
So, if you are looking for blinds that closely resemble wood, but come at a lower cost, faux wood blinds may be just what you are looking for.

New window blinds may have saved my marriage
What’s that you say? Who buys window blinds online? I do, or did. Here’s my story: My wife has been pressuring me to get a bigger, nicer home. She wanted to put our home on the market and roll the equity into a bigger one. Trouble is our (my) timing couldn’t be worse. I should have listened to her earlier. But, frankly then we (I) would have a bigger house bought at the peak of the market. Yikes! My wife is not happy so I needed a solution. What we (she) decided to do instead, and thank God this worked to appease her, was to spruce-up our existing home with some cool new window blinds. I went to Home Depot and 3 Day Blinds and saw what I liked but I was a little put-off by the price. A friend told me that you can purchase the same blinds online at a discount. Yeah, right! Who buys window blinds online? How would that even work? Turns out more people then I thought and, where there’s a buck to be made, there’s clever people who are making new things possible. And, where’s there’s a buck to be saved there’s people willing to try new things. I guess I am now in the latter group because the next day I surfed the internet for the same things I saw at the regular stores. Which I think helped in the long run as I kind of knew what I wanted. I did a search for vinyl mini blinds and cellular blinds. The first was my inexpensive option and the second was my wife’s choice. I learned that cellular blinds, though more expensive can help save money by insulating your home. So, I guess if you are thinking long term cellular blinds would make more sense. Or, so my wife says. I found a website that I liked and surfed to the appropriate categories. It turns out that all you need is to be able to measure windows, even I can handle that. But, I was concerned about installing them myself. I am about as handy as a sack of wet mice. So, I decided to call the online company and hit them with the tough question: what do I do with them once I get them? I was ready to here some bogus answer but the person I spoke with ended up convincing me that the blinds come with detailed directions and, furthermore, if I could drive a screw into wood, I would be able to handle hanging a set of blinds. Ok, fine, but which ones? That was even easier, the wife overruled the cheaper vinyl mini blinds and we ended up buying some nice Hunter Douglas cellular shades for 3 bedrooms and the living room. The cost savings was pretty significant – like 35%. We got the blinds and spent the better part of a Saturday installing them. It’s funny how a simple change like adding new blinds can change your perception of the house you spent the last 5 years in. It was like a new home and I found myself cleaning more and even thinking of new improvements. Maybe I will mow the lawn. Funny how that works.
