Blinded For The Better

What would be the most perfect way to hide the sunlight from our sight inside our very homes is through the use of a window blind. This is a covering for a window usually attached to its interior. These blinds could either block excess heat during summer or keep in heat during cold weather. The blinds’ power to reduce sunlight depends on how these things were designed. Blinds can also be installed in doors.

Many people love the clean, sleek look of window treatments. Verticals, woods and shutters provide privacy and light control without adding excessive texture or colors.

Blinds can be categorized according to the materials used to create them. Venetian blinds are basic slatted blind made of metal or plastic; wooden slats are sometimes used but these are usually referred to as wood blinds or bamboo blinds.

Wood blinds offer a warm and inviting look. These are richly stained or painted and are ideal for almost any room types. They are also known for energy efficiency, and greater light control, as well as being economical alternatives to shutters.

If you’re aspiring for the feel of real wood in your windows but is sticking to a stricter budget, you can use faux wood blinds as this materials give you the look of real wood, but in a much cheaper price. Aside from that they won't warp, crack or split, they're useful in high moisture and heavy traffic areas. This can be considered as the most popular among window blinds.

Vertical blinds can be considered as one of the most practical and functional blinds since it give you countless ways for easy adjustment of light that comes inside your room and serve as great insulators. They can be easily cleaned because they gather little dust. There are a lot of alternatives for Vertical blinds which are good for large windows, glass walls, sliding doors and room dividers. Sliding panel shades are popular for large windows and walls of glass. These panel tracks are also perfect for patio sliders and sliding doors, or even as a room divider.

In choosing window treatments, one should always think away from the materials, fabric, color, size and hardware for a meant time to ponder upon the most basic of things: privacy, light control, function and style. To ensure privacy, one should consider complete opaque covering, like fabric or roller shadings, which are made of vinyl to complete coverage of windows, and blinds and shutters.

For light control, a non-fabric shade can be installed for rooms that need to be fully darkened. Natural blinds such as bamboo and matchstick will filter the light and cut down on much of the glare.

Functionalities of window coverings vary. Stationery treatments, which are permanently installed function as sheers, blinds or shades. Blinds and soft shades are recommended to eliminate hazardous dangling objects that might be played by children.

To stylize the room, add interest to windows by repeating fabrics and colors used in other parts of the room and add style with contrasting borders and cordings. There's a lot which can be done with the different materials such as draperies, valances, shades and blinds to give class and style for a bland room or area.

Faux Wood Blinds - A Great Alternative To Wood Blinds

Creating a warm, relaxing, yet elegant home decor is the goal of nearly every homeowner. Arguably, one of the biggest ways to improve your home's interior is with wood window blinds. These blinds instantly create a welcoming message to your family and guests as well. The biggest problem for many is the cost of wood blinds, but thankfully there is a solution to this with faux wood blinds. Here is what you need to know about this inexpensive alternative.

Of course, you can always utilize curtains, drapes or even plastic blinds over your windows, but there is something very special about the look of wood blinds. They come available in all types of styles and sizes. For those hard to fit windows you can even have custom wood blinds made. If your budget is tight then faux wood blinds can be used instead.

Faux wood blinds are actually made out of wood materials in addition to vinyl or a combination of both. Their appearance is so life-like that it can be extremely difficult for most people to actually see the difference with these types of blinds.

Why use faux wood blinds?

Naturally, the biggest reason for using faux wood blinds is the reduced cost involved. You will typically save up to 50% off the cost of real wood blinds with faux counterparts. This is substantial depending on the number of windows in your home.

Another big reason has nothing to with cost, but with your home's location. Do you live in an area that is subject to extremely high humidity year round? Or are you looking for blinds that will stand up to the humidity in a bathroom? Well, wood blinds are very susceptible to moisture and can warp or swell quite easily. This is where faux wood blinds make for a perfect alternative.

You can find faux wood window blinds at home stores as well as home improvement centers such as Lowes and Home Depot. Another great place to search out these blinds is right online. There are many websites that specialize in all types of blinds and window coverings.

Once you purchase your blinds you can easily install them yourself in most all cases. All the necessary hardware and instructions are included with your blinds.

So, if you are looking for blinds that closely resemble wood, but come at a lower cost, faux wood blinds may be just what you are looking for.

New window blinds may have saved my marriage

What’s that you say? Who buys window blinds online? I do, or did. Here’s my story: My wife has been pressuring me to get a bigger, nicer home. She wanted to put our home on the market and roll the equity into a bigger one. Trouble is our (my) timing couldn’t be worse. I should have listened to her earlier. But, frankly then we (I) would have a bigger house bought at the peak of the market. Yikes! My wife is not happy so I needed a solution. What we (she) decided to do instead, and thank God this worked to appease her, was to spruce-up our existing home with some cool new window blinds. I went to Home Depot and 3 Day Blinds and saw what I liked but I was a little put-off by the price. A friend told me that you can purchase the same blinds online at a discount. Yeah, right! Who buys window blinds online? How would that even work? Turns out more people then I thought and, where there’s a buck to be made, there’s clever people who are making new things possible. And, where’s there’s a buck to be saved there’s people willing to try new things. I guess I am now in the latter group because the next day I surfed the internet for the same things I saw at the regular stores. Which I think helped in the long run as I kind of knew what I wanted. I did a search for vinyl mini blinds and cellular blinds. The first was my inexpensive option and the second was my wife’s choice. I learned that cellular blinds, though more expensive can help save money by insulating your home. So, I guess if you are thinking long term cellular blinds would make more sense. Or, so my wife says. I found a website that I liked and surfed to the appropriate categories. It turns out that all you need is to be able to measure windows, even I can handle that. But, I was concerned about installing them myself. I am about as handy as a sack of wet mice. So, I decided to call the online company and hit them with the tough question: what do I do with them once I get them? I was ready to here some bogus answer but the person I spoke with ended up convincing me that the blinds come with detailed directions and, furthermore, if I could drive a screw into wood, I would be able to handle hanging a set of blinds. Ok, fine, but which ones? That was even easier, the wife overruled the cheaper vinyl mini blinds and we ended up buying some nice Hunter Douglas cellular shades for 3 bedrooms and the living room. The cost savings was pretty significant – like 35%. We got the blinds and spent the better part of a Saturday installing them. It’s funny how a simple change like adding new blinds can change your perception of the house you spent the last 5 years in. It was like a new home and I found myself cleaning more and even thinking of new improvements. Maybe I will mow the lawn. Funny how that works.

Vertical Blinds for Difficult Windows - Questions Answered

Vertical blinds provide a needed service in our homes and offices, solving problems for us that we ordinarily could not resolve easily. They help to control the level of sunlight that pours into our rooms, and they help provide privacy for us in our homes, as well. Vertical blinds are very helpful but sometimes they can present difficulties. Maybe you want to control the light, but do not want to have to turn on your electrical lights every time you close your vertical blinds. Perhaps there is a view that you don’t want spoiled or you have an older window that you still want to show off. How can you use vertical blinds when they may solve a problem for you, if they might create another problem at the same time? How does one get around these problems while still controlling the light with their vertical blinds? In this study we will look at some common problems with vertical blinds and look for a suitable solution.

The appeal of French doors in a home is second to none. However, placing vertical blinds on them can lead to a great deal of swinging. This can create problems with tangling and can eventually wear the blinds down. For French doors, tie backs may be available. These will help the vertical blinds stay in place while you use your French doors to the fullest. Again, it may be advisable to make sure that your vertical blinds are larger than the doors, so when they are moved to the sides, they will completely clear the openings, and allow you to have easier access to the openings.

Sometimes we have views that we really don’t want spoiled. Perhaps your home backs onto a forest or you have a beautiful garden to admire. Maybe you have grand floor to ceiling glass windows and a magnificent view of the ocean, a bay, or even a golf course. You fear that vertical blinds could take away from that lovely view that perhaps you even helped to create. A good solution is to get blinds that stack way on the sides of the windows. Try to get blinds with a small stacking space, so the stacks on the sides will be smaller than alternatives. Generally the larger the stacking space the more view you will loose.

Fabric Vertical Blinds are an excellent choice; because of the thin nature of the fabrics, when high quality fabric is used, fabric vertical blinds will stack smaller and cleaner to the sides, and will not form an unattractive column where you do not want one. They look lovely when they are in the window and are nearly invisible when they are drawn to the sides. Fabric Vertical blinds are also a quiet choice, as they make substantially less noise when moving with the wind, either natural or from your air conditioner. If you have walls next to your windows, you can get the vertical blinds several inches wider than the glass portion of the walls, to ensure that the windows are not obstructed by the vertical blinds.

Arched windows and eyebrow windows are very attractive in a home. Often they are used as accent glass, put there to provide additional lighting and enhanced beauty. Sometimes, however, their location may require you to cover them some times. These odd shaped windows can be an absolute nightmare when it comes to fitting a vertical blind. In this situation it is best to purchase a blind that can be cut or shaped to the size you need. When covering these windows, it may be advisable to use fabric vertical blinds, because they will allow at least part of your light benefit to continue, while cutting out most of the light and retaining your privacy.

You may have a room that has a strong breeze. That breeze may be from open windows, or foot traffic, or even from a strong air conditioner. Metal vertical blinds and plastic vertical blinds tend to click and clack as they move. As we mentioned, fabric vertical blinds are quieter. You can consider those as your solution for these problematic spaces.

Finally, we all have those windows in our homes that are difficult to reach. For such windows it isn’t so much the vertical blinds you choose but the accessories to go with them. Extra long cords and chains are things you may want to consider with these types of windows. Remember that these chains and cords may not add to the beauty of your rooms, and they also complicate the safety in your spaces.

If the vertical blinds and their controls are really out of reach you may wish to consider remote controls. Remote controls, while a little more expensive, do add additional value to your home while making the manipulation of the window blinds very easy. Don’t lose your remote control!

Difficult windows can still be fitted with beautiful vertical blinds. Skylights, arches, eyebrows, and sometimes even portal windows can be problems when selecting window coverings. Sometimes a little creativity and accessories are all that are needed. If you have a view that you don’t want to lose or a window that is in the worst possible position, you do not have to fear. It can still be fitted with a nice vertical blind. Again, vertical blinds can help to solve your problems, without creating additional problems for you.

Blinded by the Light? Vertical Blinds May be the Answer

We hear many positive references to light. Phrases such as let the sun shine in and Light up my life all have us making our way into the rays. However, the grand irony of the sun and excessive light is that it can blind as well as aid in sight. Other times, we may wish to completely stop the light from entering at all. On occasion the light thrusting in is more of a curse than a blessing. The answer to this problem is vertical blinds. Letting in light can show off a room and leave it with a warm, tingly glow. There are times however when we want to dim that light just slightly.

Vertical blinds provide the perfect solution to light control problems. You can have the sun coming in at full force or none at all and varying stages of light filtering in between. They allow you to adjust them according to the amount of light you want to allow in. Whatever your choice for the moderated natural lighting, you can manage your illumination using vertical blinds.

There are literally hundreds of vertical blind types, leaving the buyer spoiled for choice. The obvious question is which type of vertical blind is the best to buy? You may also be interested in specialty colors, like wood styles and more. Although they are rather basic, vertical window blinds provide and easy and inexpensive solution to light control problems.

When you are interested in allowing natural light in throughout the day, consider fabric vertical blinds. Fabric verticals, when made from high quality woven materials, can be beautiful, and can last a long time. In addition to this beauty, what we are really concerned with here is lighting.

Consider that when the fabric vertical blinds are moved to the side, and are out of the way, you can allow nearly all of the light to enter the room. Next, consider that the blind can be moved across the window to be open, but ready to rotate. When rotating the fabric blinds, you can have as much as one hundred eighty degree control. This means that when you close the fabric vertical vanes, you can flip them completely I the other direction to change the light filtering of the vertical blinds. You can move anywhere in between, for real control. There is a significant environmental and ecological benefit of fabric vertical blinds. When you completely darken a room with PVC vertical blinds, you are forced to create light inside the room to see. This means that if you only want to have a little privacy, you can keep your lights off, thus saving electricity with fabric vertical blinds.

PVC Vertical blinds, also called plastic vertical blinds, also can help to control the blinding light. These do not have to be unattractive plain pieces of plastic. Those days are gone. The range of colorful PVC verticals is increasingly large, with textured and patterned designs.

When choosing PVC vertical blinds, select a thicker plastic pattern; it can offer better resistance to the damage of the sun. These thicker materials will hold their shapes and colors longer. How Hunter Douglas Sheer Horizontal Blinds Improve Homes

We all know that man’s inquisitive nature has led us to where we are today. Throughout history, we have constantly evolved and sought after ways of improving life. It is because of this urge that we now have electricity in our homes. These are homes that are no longer built from simple clay and wood interwoven together, but homes that are built at today’s standards from concrete, steel or other modern materials. Standards these days have risen to such a level where the least of comfort is available for anybody. The same can be said when it comes to window blinds.

To prove this point, let’s talk about a simple thing that has greatly improved the way we live in our modern homes; that thing is the sheer horizontal blind developed by the well-known company Hunter Douglas Inc. Hunter Douglas appeared in the late 1940s when two men, who wanted to improve the standards of living in those days, decided to unite and develop a completely new way of both dimming the amount of light that entered ones home and also find a way to protect the windows from nature’s ravages. These two men were an, American Joe Hunter, and Dutchman Henry Sonnenberg. Thanks to their innovation a new trend was about to sweep the U.S. and the world abroad. They began in a simple barn in America working hard by night time and selling their creations by day time. Thus, Hunter Douglas was born.

Because of their versatility and also because of their ingenuous design that stands for beauty and sophistication, sheer horizontal blinds became a trend setting example in the last few years. The sheer horizontal blinds are probably the most popular Hunter Douglas product today. These blinds combine modern day ingenuity and style to best suit the needs of customers. People working at Hunter Douglas have come up with the ingenious idea of putting a different type of material vanes in between two layers of soft knitted fabrics, thus creating a whole new structure that combines the design of a blind, shade and curtain in one.

Even today, Hunter Douglas is the world leader in producing and selling sheer horizontal blinds. This is again to the fact that Hunter Douglas is the always striving for innovation. Hunter Douglas Inc. is the window covering industry’s trend setter, always leading with new styles that follow the ever changing world wide trend. Functionality and style comes up in every ones mind when the name Hunter Douglas is mentioned.

Thanks to the ingenuous way they are made, the sheer horizontal blinds manufactured by Hunter Douglas can please any type of taste and functionality when it comes to decoration of an interior but in the same time protection from the light outside. Because they are so malleable, they can please any taste in interior design ranging from contemporary to formal, traditional to modern.

The facts speak for themselves, sheer horizontal blinds manufactured by Hunter Douglas Inc. are both the next best thing in interior design and also very reliable and functional when it comes to protection against UV light or just the amount of light that one may choose to let in.

What to Choose for Your Window Blinds

Whether you have just moved into your new apartment or just want to make some changes, it is still important to give your windows some thought. For most of us, windows with blinds are much better than having no window covering at all.

There are a number of reasons why people usually put window blinds:

First, they may find it pleasing to have something hanging on their windows. Simply, for the love of accessorizing your home.

Second, window blinds can also warrant privacy since these would not allow others to see through directly your windows.

Finally but certainly not the last of reasons among many considerations is for adding effects around the house. Say, for room darkening for better manipulation of house lighting. It also works well as an energy saver since it can shut out light during hot summer days or keep heat in during winter.

Blinds have decorating effects that can never be had when using curtains. One classic effect is the adding of either horizontal or vertical line for uniformity of window detail.

There are various types of blinds. If you are not keen with interior designing, you can always seek for the professional help of a decorator or you can always ask the retailer for some guidelines or search for websites covering interior designing to help you out.

Real wood window blinds
Are of much lighter weight and definitely higher tag prices. Yet, it provides more natural look and can even compensate for that cozy, warm and homey feeling that you want. This option usually comes in a number of color and stain options.

Faux wood window blinds
This type may come in vinyl or wood or a combination of both. This option often works great with kitchen and bathroom decors and is easier to clean due to its water-resistance quality. With a price much lower than that of real wood, you are sure to get the best value from this window blind if you can be advised of the best option to choose.

Honeycomb window blinds
This type, on the other hand, works well with heavily lighted rooms. As its name suggests, honeycomb blinds offer smaller cells which are great for energy conservation, good insulation and better privacy. Not everyone likes the appearance and functions of the honeycomb blinds though. But for people with a preference to more fixed lighting, this is the best solution.

Mini Blinds
For its simplicity and relatively cheap price, many beginner's go for mini blinds. While it may not work in functions like others, this still makes a good option for kitchen and bathroom accessory. Additionally, it can be easily replaced whenever the need arises.

Vertical blinds
While many have the conventional thought of choosing horizontal blinds, many other would still prefer vertical blinds especially when matched with French doors. Among the many reasons are efficiency of cleaning (with lesser susceptibility against dust), wide spectrum of patterns, textures, and materials. Be careful though with the selection of vertical blinds since these would often not match traditional and country homes. Additionally, these would not also work well when other windows in a single room are with horizontal blinds.

Venetian blinds
Technically, Venetian blinds are thin slats that are attached to a string ladder which has a primary purpose of adjustment mechanism for tilt and slats.
